Description:
From one primarily black and white cover of an album released this week to the next, here we have Fallen Night, the newest album from Cincinnati-born music producer Lynn Standafer under his pseudonym Enduser. It has been a very long while since a breakcore album has been on the frontpage of this blogsite, so it was only natural for something like Fallen Night to emerge only 4 days after releasing at the time of writing.
This album follows a subtype of the classic heavy chops and percussion-centric nature of Breakcore, implementing more melody and athmospheric sounds underneath a fast, efficient and meticulous albeit not outright overboard or flashy base. It adds an air of mystery and musical tension to the very few but comparatively long tracks that is often absent in most works in the genre. In a way of keeping cohesion within the tracks for the extended time that they span, the general compositions of the songs typically loop for the duration, with occasional mix-ups and breakups to switch things apart, but primarily sticking to what gets introduced early on in the track.
For a listening experience barely scraping above 30 minutes overall, Fallen Night is a worthwile album that especially grows on the listener with increased exposure. While more could have of course been achieved to keep things interesting for long enough for the tracks to feel like they were worth their 5+ minute durations, what actually came as an end result is far from a waste either. Though breakcore as a genre is naturally not to everyone's taste due to its harsh and alienating sound, I would nevertheless still recommend Fallen Night for fans of electronic music willing to try this underappreciated type of music out with an album that is less likely to shatter one's eardrums (unless it's played on a high enough volume, I suppose).
