Description:

The sixth and newest release of Travis Egedy, a New York-based electronic musician, fashion designer and artist going by the name Pictureplane, Sex Distortion follows closely in the footsteps of its predecessors, keeping the hip and familiar yet simultaneously subtly unique and subversive style of "witch house" formed and shaped by Egedy himself.

Though what Sex Distortion provides may be glanced over as merely boring old synthwave designed to go viral on short-form content platforms when listening unattentively, what meets the ear when engaging with the album proper paints a much more fascinating sonical picture - one of layered basslines, high-pitched keys and synths, spooky and occult-sounding samples, trap drum loops, reverb in not only the deep vocals but practically everywhere it's applicable for, and an absolutely unmatched ambience in terms of expertly mashing together slick, catchy and satisfying rhythms and instrumentals with a dreamlike, mysterious and dark atmosphere.

There are very few tracks within this package that don't sound in some way, shape or form fun and intriguing to listen to; a majority of them immaculately strike a sweet spot of honing in their synth melodies, simple yet effective percussions and grim soundscape whilst not overstaying their welcome and avoiding wearing the listener down. If there is one song that does this better than all of the others, however, it would certainly have to be the breakout track "Heaven is a State of Mind" - sometimes it is simply jaw-dropping how everything that could possibly go right in a song in a "-wave" genre to not only go right, but absolutely skyrocket in victory. It would be most surprising if this song doesn't get stuck in my head for at least a few days after writing this.

Overall, I have very few words to say about Sex Distortion, other than how it is by far one of the most well-made, fun and delightfully creepy electronic albums I've had the pleasure of listening to. Definitely a strong recommendation for those into synth mysic who wish to try out something comfortable yet qualitative and engaging!
