Description:

The newest of Miami's Clayton Bullard's releases under his project name Trevor Something has only been out the public for 22 days as of writing, and has already been making an effort at capturing the attention of fans of synthwave and dark pop music with its chilled out, tranquil and washy nature. The Anima attempts to combine this ambience with emotionally raw lyrics about love, desire and heartbreak, creating a mixture of emotions within one album.

Unfortunately, what has been ended up with are 11 tracks that don't manage to convey either feeling in an engaging way, instead suffering from the syndrome and effects of overt idleness; the minimal composition with simple trap beats, extremely basic synth-pop lines, reverberated and distant singing, and a lack of musical elements to really draw intrigue into what is going on, makes the songs push themselves into the background at full force and blend with one another. Whilst this calmer and less flashy style of synth music may be to the delight of some, it doesn't give other listeners who are seeking something more artistic or fulfilling any sufficient reasoning to come back to the album after one initial listen.

The Anima ended up feeling less like a classy and laid-back work of music to yours truly, and instead more like a decently made and perfectly serviceable yet ultimately rather underwhelming set of songs that fail to induce any sort of graspable emotion other than boredom.
