The debut of the Los Angeles-based three-man group with an amusing name, Dirty Power is an electronic album that, in spite of its release in the 2010's decade, channels the timely athmosphere of the late 20th century with its production and usage of particular sounds to create its music. Full use is made of vocoders, synthesizers, live drums, drum machines and others tools to create a rhythmic and groove-heavy set of tracks that rely on few but efficiently used sonical layers and achieve more with less.
The tracks, while failing to avoid the common tendency to blend into each other at times, offer a variety of different beats, rhythms and percussioning styles that come in full display and lay the groundworks for the electronically produced melodies and vocoded singing built on top. It all comes together in one package that achieves the rare feat of a both "retro" and simultaneously futuristic sound.
An interesting and unusually catchy album that showcases an impressive extent musical capability under self-set limitation and some less modern tools and sounds.
