Description:
Back to recommendations from close friends, and our next stop is the acclaimed Pennsylvania-based metalcore band Motionless In White with their sixth studio album Scoring The End Of The World. Described as a step-up in heaviness and intensity from their prior record, it entered production in the midst of the pandemic, leading to slight delays and waits until the songs ended up releasing later on, and the wait seemed to have been well worthwile for many, as the album was greeted with plenty of positive reviews praising it as one of the band's best works to date.
The tracks follow a classic metalcore sound palette as it alternates consistently between clean vocals and very aggressive shouts atop a bombastic, striking metal instrumental. Combining sheer sonical weight with heaps of melodicism in an extremely modernised style that defines the subgenre, the album provides nearly 50 minutes of music filled with clear passion, emotion and meaning - and it further attaches to this by lyrically tackling pressing themes of oppression, violence, internal troubles and climate change, letting their messages fully get conveyed on every angle. While the effectivity of the specific hooks and memorable moments within the tracks varies throughout, they overall skew more on the positive end of things and prove themselves to be relatively enjoyable.
Very few words accurately describe the thought process one goes through as Scoring The End Of The World plays, but the general emotions of rage and tragedy displayed by the output speaks directly to the soul in a way that not many albums manage to do nearly as well or as efficiently, and it overall leads to a solid listening experience filled with several tracks that stick in one's memory for the right reasons. It is overall a well-made album with a clear vision that manages to strike one right where it aims, and the fact that it does this whilst simultaneously managing to avoid many pitfalls metal music in particular tends to fall into frequently is a testament to the talents of the band behind it. I can most certainly say that I look forward to explore Motionless In White's further strides over the course of their musical careers.
