Description:
Two friends and electronic producers from Russia join forces to create a short yet tranquil album, as Alexander Maslow (Antent) and Pavel Slivnitsin (Nectry) released their album places we'll go this year, on that darn date again. Known for creating slow and immersive electronic music, the former has been active in the scene for exactly a decade now, whilst the latter has more recently stepped in, and the two have been in active collaboration since 2022. This new project of theirs generally falls into the usual ballpark in terms of style and genre, striking within a well treaded zone of comfort for the producers.
A small but well produced collection of calm, slow songs to rest one's head to, this album manifests itself as one constant flow of serenity in musical form that passes through for 20 minutes straight. Not taking many risks in straying away from the soundscape introduced from the beginning, places we'll go feels more like one longer, collected piece compared to an album of varied tracks like one is used to with most records. Though not one with particularly lots to say with its music aside from emotional song titles in all lower caps, it nevertheless achieves its aim of setting a low energy mood, and whether it be through relaxation or deep melancholy is musically left up to the interpretation of the listener themselves.
There may be little to explore here in places we'll go beyond what the initial listen provides us with, but that is far from saying that the album isn't a worthwhile piece regardless with its strong tranquility radiating through all seven tracks. Perhaps not a third-eye-opening listening experience going into this record, but an enjoyable one nonetheless, especially if in the right mood for it.
