From an artist I've been following for a while now, here is a recent release from around a week ago as of writing - aran, a Japanese producer, with his sixth studio album ALTSPACE. Non-western electronic music, compared to western musical conventions, notably has subtle yet impacftul differences in the way its production is approached, and aran's music is no exception. Generally known for making energetic tracks that have an explosive effect like splashes of colour, this musician finds himself firmly in a widely appreciated genre that yet still contains intricacies and unexplored layers within it ready to be witnessed, and this includes the likes of his works.
ALTSPACE, though not a record with any specific consistent theme, has a highly cohesive general sound to it thanks to aran's style of producing EDM shining through so prominently. Through fast tempos, strong build-ups and drops, and digital sounds being sorted into an organised progression, the tracks take on a slick and well-produced form that energises the listener with their hyper nature. Though the different tracks have varying motifs that drive them along, the overall energy surrounding them remains similar throughout, providing both a unified identity to the album and variation in tracks to keep the listening experience fresh.
The charm of aran's music is on full display with the set of tracks ALTSPACE has in store, as it is nearly impossible to resist at least tapping one's foot in rhythm to especially the best songs on here, such as "Relic" or the extended mixes of "EPHMR" and "Chaotic Neutral". The samples used and building blocks placed to create the music are some classics of the producer, and they show their full musical power when used in the right hands and moments, which this assortment of D&B and house music ends up acting as. It all leads to a less groundbreaking yet still quite enjoyable record from an artist with a lot of talent to be acknowledged, and a listen-through is recommended to fans of the genre.
