Two out of three releases from 12 June underway, and this in particularly was the popular release I was talking about. Olivia Rodrigo has absolutely stolen the show in recent years with her music and persona and made such a name for herself as to fill out crowds. Starting with her first breakout hit "drivers licence" in 2021 at the height of the pandemic and striking the mark repeatedly since then with her singles and two successful albums, she has become one of the biggest names in modern pop music, especially when talking about artists making more melancholy or vulnerable songs in the mainstream. you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love marks the third time she is releasing a bundle of tracks at once now, and along with having two pre-established breakout tracks, there is even more to explore here that goes even beyond the prior scope of her discography.

Though far from non-abundant on Rodrigo's usual style of singing about love, personal struggles and crises, often in a gloomy and self-indulgent tone reflected in the instrumentals, at times the tracks really do break away from what one has come to expect from the young artist. Electronic influences, more out-there mixing and segments that barely even feel like they come from the same singer at times take the stage to add a bit of flavour to the output overall. Nevertheless, it is clear that the moments where the pairing of emotional and heartfelt vocals and drastically varying backdrops shine the most with this album are the slow moments and tearjerkers - in particular, "honeybee", "begged", big hit "the cure" and especially "less" hit especially strongly, partially due to their more stripped-down structure.

Rodrigo seems to fill a niche within the scape of popular music that seems to be appealing to many in particular ways whilst pushing away others, and this new album of hers lands firmly in that space. An expansive piece in her discography that redefines what makes up the sum of her music whilst also sticking to the tried and true whenever needed, two sides intertwine with each other that lead to a very qualitative listen from an established artist. In spite of her earlier work not always being to my tastes, I found myself enjoying this one quite a bit, especially when Olivia Rodrigo plays into her strengths as a musician, which she does plenty.
